Program Coordinator

Position Location: Washington, DC

Reports to: Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs

The program coordinator will have the major role in implementing the activities of the New Beginnings program. This person will facilitate meetings, conference calls, and monitor and document all the activities of the program including the activities of collaborating organizations. The New Beginnings Program Coordinator will be a core part of the Washington, DC Task Force staff team that works to make changes within the federal government for the LGBT community.

Responsibilities: The program coordinator will work with the Task Force staff, project partners and any consultants on this project to:

  • To publicize to the LGBT community and broader public the New Beginning Initiative and the collaborative work of the organizations in pursuing policy changes, within the Executive Office, and across federal agencies.
  • Help organize the convening of two meetings in Washington DC July 13th -14th and another six months later), of the contributing organizations to the project with the express purpose of identifying specific priority policy recommendations; develop the action plans to move the policy recommendations into policy change; and to assess where we are at six months, and how to make any course corrections to ensure success of the work.
  • Through the first in person meeting and subsequent regular conference calls, facilitate a tiered approach to prioritize the 80 recommendations. Projected timelines for different tier levels will be established focused on the urgency of the proposed changes and the groups' conclusion regarding the likelihood of swift accomplishment.
  • Facilitate and participate as appropriate the action teams to lobby agencies for individual and/or clusters of recommendations. Each team will develop a methodical advocacy strategy during the first in-person meeting. Each policy team will have an identified a lead organization and will be responsible for strategy implementation. The Program coordinator will participate and facilitate regular team conference calls.
  • The Program Coordinator will keep a documentation of all New Beginnings' activities, meetings, calls etc. The program Coordinator will produce all reports for the Task Force and the program funder thoroughly documenting all activities.
  • The Program Coordinator will participate and facilitate the creation of an electronic scorecard, housed on our website, of federal non-legislative policy changes that benefit LGBT people. The Coordinator will track and work with the Communications department to publicize progress toward achieving the recommended policy changes.

Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs.

Qualifications: A minimum of three years full-time experience in public policy work on the federal level, or experience in managing campaigns and working knowledge of federal agencies.

  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and oral communication skills
  • Must have an ability to conduct accurate research and analysis in a fast-paced advocacy setting.
  • Well organized and self-directed and able to handle multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Must have an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender movement or allied social justice movements preferred.
  • A one-year commitment is expected.

Associate Executive Director

The successful candidate must be a proven self-starter and multi-tasker, with a healthy obsession for expecting greatness from oneself and those around you. You must have a passionate commitment to the organization's mission, a genuine love of people embodying radical hospitality, and a track record for creativity and attention to detail.

The Associate Executive Director must also be deeply spiritually grounded, and be committed to peace with justice that incorporates overcoming oppression. The position requires significant skills in interpersonal communication, a grace-filled, positive and professional demeanor, a service motivation, superior trust/rapport building, and excellent organizing and record-keeping skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 1. Creation and implementation of a systemic outreach plan with budget to increase the number of new Reconciling individuals and groups (congregations, communities, etc.) and to challenge and assist existing Reconciling settings to adopt deeper postures of welcome
  • 2. Recruitment and development of dedicated volunteers and leaders who are trained in faith-based community organizing to strengthen regional teams by building relationships for long-haul systems change
  • 3. Management and coordination of field organizers (paid and unpaid) that integrates grassroots regional work with movement-wide campaigns and events
  • 4. Serving as a visible spokesperson and advocate for RMN's mission and programs in partnership with other key staff
  • 5. Provide oversight and management of the RMN office and administrative staff in the absence of the Executive Director

Administrative and Donor Relations Associate

The successful candidate exudes warmth and hospitality in voice and action. This candidate can multi-task and possesses exceptional organizational skills. This person is committed to teamwork and enjoys facilitating smooth operations among RMN staff members. The position requires a positive, professional demeanor, in the face of regularly shifting priorities, plus a willingness to step up to do whatever is required, at the moment it is needed. The position requires a service motivation, with creative ability and the willingness to share ideas.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 1. Offers first contact hospitality with visitors, volunteers and staff, handles incoming telephone calls, processes emails, regular mail and responds to inquiries, promptly and effectively.
  • 2. Provides general administrative support, maintains files, collates, copies, scans, produces reports, letters, schedules conference calls, etc.
  • 3. Monitors giving patterns and anticipates future service needs for RMN donors, prepares bank deposits, donor acknowledgments, memorial tributes, and reconciles pledges, payments, and purchases using Results Plus database.
  • 4. Maintains accuracy of database records, enters new data, runs database queries for staff, regional organizing needs, and direct mail solicitations.
  • 5. Travels, as assigned, to provide on-location support for major events such as RMN's biennial national convocations or the quadrennial General Conference of The United Methodist Church.
